Two large redevelopment projects fueled that sentiment.Jeannette/Route 30 Redevelopment ProjectIn August, Colony Holding purchased the former Monsour Hospital property from the Westmoreland County Land Bankand announced plans to develop the 6.4 acres into the new Jayhawk Commons. Colony Holding will guide the nal phase Rendering of planned Jayhawk Commonsof work to transform the Route 30 site into a mix of commercial, retail and oce space.e Monsour Medical Centers nine-story cylindrical tower had sat vacant since 2006. e land bank bought the site in 2014, and the WCIDC carried out $3.1 million worth of demolition, environmental remediation and site-improvement work. At left, the old Monsour Hospital tower.Jeannette Glass SiteAfter nalizing the purchase of the 13.8-acre Jeannette Glass site from the WCIDC in October, the Elliott Group held a December groundbreaking for a $60 million cryogenic pump-testing facility that will create about 130 new jobs. City, county and state leaders turned out to celebrate the Jeannette-based companys investment in the community.Elliott is building on a WCIDC-redeveloped site. e property, which had been inactive since Jeannette Glass closed in 1983, featured multiple run-down industrial buildings and had become a safety Elliott Groundbreaking risk.
