b'Business OutreachBusiness OutreachIn 2019, the WCIDCs Business Outreach Program visited approximately 60 dierent companies. During those visits, wediscussed several issues of concern and shared information onexisting programs and new initiatives that could assist the business community. Of those visits, 48 were part of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Developments Engage! program. An additional 22 company connections were established through meet-and-greet events.CollaborationWere a part of Partnerships forRegional EconomicPerformance (PREP), a state network of business-assistance partners that helps companies start, grow and prosper. Our eorts complement Engage!which is an industry-driven initiative featuring professionals who connect with and assist businessesacross the state. e Engage! program initiates conversationswith businesses to deliver planning, technical and next-step resources. Challenges for Companiese companies that the WCIDCs Business Outreach sta visited were asked to identify their biggest challenge. Heres the 201941% - Workforcendings:24% - e Workforce category remains, for the fourth consecutiveFinancial Assistance 10% - Transportationyear, the biggest challenge. Businesses recognize that they need14% -11% - Siteto determine how to retain their current workforce while alsoBusiness Requirementsattracting new talent. AssistanceIts also interesting to note the increase in respondents citing transportation issues as their biggest challenge. Last year, only 2 percent of respondents cited transportation; this year, 10 percent did. As part of the eorts to implement the core objectives of the countys Comprehensive Plan for transportation choices, Business Outreach in 2019 assisted in arranging a meeting with the tenants of the Westmoreland Business & Research Park in Upper Burrell and Washington townships. e county is currently seeking funding and partnerships with local, regional and state agencies to promote public transit and to address the transportation needs in this area.10'
